Smart-sourcing the Value Chain

Adkins Keynotes at NIIT's Annual Partner Summit

By Tyson Greer, CEO

On November 15th, Sam S. Adkins, Ambient Insight's Chief Research Officer, was the keynote speaker at NIIT's annual partner summit in San Jose. The title of Adkins' keynote was "Smartsourcing the Value Chain: Current Trends in Learning Technology and Services." The content in the session was compiled from recent Ambient Insight research on the US Learning Technology market. NIIT's annual summit is an invitation-only event with training and education executives from over 60 technology companies attending this year's event.

"I am honored that NIIT asked me to address this audience," said Adkins. "NIIT is one of the world's largest Learning Services firms and their partners are global technology firms that are early adopters of cutting-edge technology. Ambient Insight has a breathtaking view of the US Learning Technology market and the keynote gave me an opportunity to describe the latest innovations to a very savvy audience."

Adkins pointed out in his session that there is a transition underway to "smart-sourcing" and "right-sourcing." In this new value chain, partners share a common business goal and work together to add value to customers. In the traditional supply chain model, it is assumed that value can only be created internally. The value chain model redefines the value-creation process to include partners and suppliers. "Effectively, right sourcing is a form of organizational innovation," comments Adkins.

Adkins highlighted recent findings on the demand for several types of learning technology products and services, and focused on four major products: Self-paced eLearning, Process-embedded Learning, Real-time Collaboration-based Learning, and Mobile Learning.

"We are an integrity-based market research firm and we have a unique '8x8 forecast matrix' that correlates the demand for eight product types across eight buyer segments. It is the most complete view of the US demand for learning products and services in the industry," adds Adkins. "It was a pleasure to describe these trends to such a well-informed audience."
