Seattle, WA - February 17, 2011 - Judy Brown was selected by the GSM Association (GSMA) as one of the judges for the Best Mobile Learning Innovation awards at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. While in Barcelona, Judy Brown joined the new mLearning Interest Group formed by the GSM Development Fund.
"This is the first year that the MWC has included Mobile Learning as a category in their Global Mobile Awards. The fact that GSMA now includes Mobile Learning as one of their award categories validates the global market for Mobile Learning," comments Brown. "It is a privilege to judge the inaugural awards. The innovation and the instructional caliber of the entries were impressive and it was a challenge to isolate the very best of the best."
The winner was announced on February 15. Of the top five finalists, Urban Planet Mobile and PT Telkomsel won the top award for their "Urban English, Mobile English Learning Initiative." The other four finalists were:
- BBC Learning English for BBC Janala
- Ericsson, The Earth Institute at Columbia University and Millennium Promise for Connect To Learn, a global education initiative.
- Nokia and the Pearson Foundation for "Bridgeit"
- OnPoint Digital for CellCast Solution
"We are honored to have Judy on Ambient Insight's advisory board," comments Tyson Greer, Ambient Insight CEO. "We are proud that she was chosen to be a judge by the GSMA. She is well qualified for the task considering she is one of the world's leading Mobile Learning experts."
Ambient Insight has been collaborating with GSMA on worldwide Mobile Learning research and was a primary contributor to their ground breaking report, "mLearning: A Platform for Educational Opportunities at the Base of the Pyramid", published in December 2010.
"Although Mobile Learning is not a new concept, the GSMA believes that mLearning is now approaching a tipping point where the potential of such services are now being realized, supported by sustainable business models," writes Lauren Dawes of the GSM Development Fund.
