"Mobile Learning has proven to be effective in shortening the interval of care delivery via handheld just-in-time access to clinical decision support, reference content, and electronic health records to name a few of the value propositions," comments Greer. "Enabling healthcare professionals to work towards CME or CE credits anywhere, anytime also saves precious time."

Historically, clinical healthcare workers have attended physical meetings to complete their CME requirements, but the picture changes dramatically between 2009 and 2014. The number of physical meetings drops precipitously, as Web-based and mobile CME surge forward.

The focus of the 15th annual Global Alliance for Medical Education conference was Innovation in CME. CME experts from around the world were invited to present the latest information on international CME requirements, perspectives, and trends. As noted in the conference materials, "In the spirit of the theme, the discussions will break from traditional CME thinking to presentation highlighting educational needs worldwide."

Greer's presentation on Mobile Learning was one of three on the future of learning. The other two "futurist" panelists were Guillaume Herve, President of CAE Health International who spoke about Simulations, and Lawrence Sherman, Senior Vice President, Prova Education USA who engaged the audience on the subject of Social Media.

The Global Alliance for Medical Education was established in June 1995 to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas among nonprofit and for-profit organizations involved internationally in the development and marketing of CME and health education programs.
