Taking the Mystery of Storage Cards

Greer's New Mobile Article Solves the Mystery of SD Cards

By Sam S. Adkins , Chief Research Officer

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 26, 2008 -- The latest Tyson Greer article published by Microsoft Windows Mobile takes the mystery out of choosing the right storage card for your mobile device. The article provides buyers with the information they need to select the right physical size, memory capacity, and type of card for their device.

The article is called Choosing and Using Storage Cards and provides a step-by-step guide to selecting and using the storage cards. In the article, Tyson advices users to, "remember that not all memory cards are the same. When selecting a memory card, you need to check your phone manufacturer's specifications for these three parameters: physical size, memory capacity, and type. Then, you'll be making sure you're buying a storage card that your phone can support."

Storage cards are now common in a range of mobile devices including cameras, phones, handheld gaming devices, PDAs, and GPS devices. But buyers are still confused about selecting the right one for their device. Greer begins the article by explaining the technology behind storage cards; flash memory.

"A flash memory card is a small wafer-thin card that you can slide into the expansion slot on your mobile device," writes Greer. "Flash memory is non-volatile or persistent memory, which means that it retains the information stored (on the card or chip) even when the device is turned off (or lost)."

One advantage of flash memory cards is that they are very durable. They remain functional in extreme temperatures and are even waterproof (although Greer does not advise users to experiment with either.)

The article also clears up the mystery surrounding the difference between the Secure Digital (SD) memory card format and the newer Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) format. Greer warns readers that the SDHC card may not be compatible with all devices.

Greer now has eight new articles on the Microsoft Windows Mobile site and a new series of mobile articles written for small and medium business (SMB) owners soon to be published on the Microsoft Small Business Center site.
